Hand Knotted Parchinkari Carpet
This hand-knotted carpet from the Erased Ancestry Collection seeks it's inspiration from the age-old Parchinkari work. If Mughal architecture is celebrated for it's glory, pietra dura, Italian for the majestic Mughal inlay art (Parchinkari) which means 'hard stone', is the most important aspect of it. It refers to the art of gem engraving and hardstone carving. The earliest example of pietra dura can be seen in Jagmandir palace’s Gol Moandal at Udaipur, built for Shah Jahan or the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula in Agra.
